Parents’ experiences of services and information in the early years

Published: 4 Mar 2016

The Social Mobility Commission commissioned Qa Research to undertake a survey of parents in order to understand the range of activities and advice used by parents from different backgrounds from pregnancy to pre-school. Overall, 1,000 parents took part in a telephone or online survey. This research was carried out in October 2015.

The objective of the research was to gain insight into the range of activities and advice used by parents from different backgrounds from pregnancy to pre-school. All of the parents taking part in the research had a firstborn child under the age of four (so, aged 0-3) and their responses were with reference to their experiences with their first child. The survey targeted the main carer, so in most, but not all cases was the mother. This report presents the key findings of this research under the main themes of the research.
