Our Policy Themes

In September 2023, we published our latest State of the Nation report called People and Places. Our evidence shows how different social mobility outcomes vary according to geography and protected characteristics.

The four areas of policy focus that we will take forward to drive social mobility and address these challenges are:

  1. Nurturing Talent – The role of families, the home learning environment and schools in improving social mobility
  2. Developing Skills and Talent – The role that skills formation has at all stages of life to improve social mobility
  3. Growing Opportunities – The role of innovation and economic growth in improving social mobility
  4. Better Data and Evaluation – The role that data has in deepening our understanding of the social mobility challenges and to inform policy-making
