Lindsay Turner Trammell, Head of Policy and Innovation at the Social Mobility Commission (SMC) will be one of the keynote speakers during a morning-long conference held by the Westminster Employment Forum on 20 May. Lindsay will be unveiling new research the SMC has commissioned from London Economics examining how apprenticeships have helped improve social mobility. It will be an early and exclusive opportunity to take a look at this seminal research, learn how the system is working and what employers, and the Government, can do to improve it.
Employer-designed apprenticeship standards are being brought in across different subjects, with the aim of a complete transition to the new ‘higher quality’ standards by August 2020, and recommendations from two further content reviews expected soon. The Westminster Employment Forum conference, which is being Chaired by Baroness Neville-Rolfe, Former Minister of State, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (2014 – 2016) and Lord Watson of Invergowrie, Shadow Spokesperson for Education, will examine these new standards for apprenticeships in England. Key areas for discussion will include the implementation of the new standards, route reviews of apprenticeship standards, use of end-point assessments, as well as the new inspection framework and the wider role of regulators.
