Social Mobility Commission at 15

Published: 4 Apr 2025

25 March marked 15 years since the passage of the Child Poverty Act 2010, and over the next year the Commission will be publishing a series of content to mark the anniversary.

The anniversary is an important milestone for the Social Mobility Commission because the Act is our founding legislation. It established the Commission as the only independent statutory body for social mobility in the UK.

Our Chair, Alun Francis, has shared a video message in which he reflects on all the work the Commission has delivered over the past 15 years, and looks to the future as the Commission works to deliver its vision for Social Mobility as set out in Innovation Generation.

Alison McGovern, Minister of State for Employment said

“The Social Mobility Commission’s work has never been more important for every young person growing up in the United Kingdom today. They need to know that it’s their talent and their hard work that will make a difference, not where they’ve come from.”

Thank you to everyone who has supported our work over the past 15 years. We hope that you will join us on our journey in the years to come
