Promoting potential: how to improve jobs, boost growth, and unlock social mobility in every corner of the UK

Event date: 29/02/2024
Event time: 13:30pm-14:30pm
Location: Hybrid

Join us for a dynamic panel discussion exploring how regional economic growth and better employment opportunities are key to supporting social mobility.

Hear directly from a panel of experts including Alison McGovern MP (Shadow Minister for Employment and Social Security), Rob Wilson (Deputy Chair, Social Mobility Commission) and Jon Gibson (Head of Policy and Public Affairs, West Midlands Combined Authority) as they come together to discuss ways to boost regional economic growth to improve social mobility throughout the UK. The event will be run in partnership with the Social Market Foundation.

The panel will tackle discussions on

  • How far does the skills and education system improve or contribute to regional disparities in economic growth?
  • What part do strong links between education and skills provision, local authorities, businesses and community groups play in stimulating regional areas for growth?
  • Should a devolved policy approach to tackling social mobility be adopted?

This is a must-attend and free event for policy makers, government officials, educators, business leaders and employers, charities and individuals who, like the Social Mobility Commission, are committed to making a difference for people across the UK.

Join the movement towards greater mobility opportunities across the UK.
