Social Mobility Commission privacy policy

The Social Mobility Commission is a Non-Departmental Public Body sponsored by the Cabinet Office. This policy sets out how The Social Mobility Commission (‘the Company’ ‘We’ ‘us’) uses and protects any information that you give us when attending an event or signing up to our mailing list.

We are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. This Privacy Policy contains information about collecting users’ Personal Data and the manner of its processing. We respect the right to privacy of all users who communicate with us and take reasonable steps to ensure you are familiar with the manner in which data provided is processed.

This policy was updated in December 2024, it may be updated from time to time, so please check it regularly.

The type of personal information we collect 

We currently collect and process the following information:

    • Name

    • Email address

    • Telephone number

    • Information about the organisation you work for and your role

How we get your personal information and why we collect it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

    • send email alerts to users who request them

    • send you research and event information

    • gather feedback to improve our events

    • provide you with information about the Social Mobility Commission

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

How we store your personal information 

Your information is securely stored on our Customer Relationship Management Tool, Tractivity. Tractivity supports the Social Mobility Commission to organise, record, stakeholder data in order for us to communicate with our stakeholders in information, research and events. The amount of time we hold your Personal Data will vary but shall be kept for no longer than is necessary for the original purposes for which it is being processed.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

    • Your right of access – You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

    • Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

    • Your right to erasure – You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

    • Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

    • Your right to object to processing – You have the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

    • Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
