The SMC’s latest annual statutory report ‘State of the Nation 2024: Local to National, Mapping Opportunities for All’ will be published on Wednesday 11 September. The Chair of the SMC, Alun Francis OBE, invites you to join him for an online discussion of the report and its findings.

Summer Nisar, Director of the SMC, will host this event and welcome contributions from key figures within the Commission. Alun Francis OBE, Chair of the SMC, will introduce the latest State of the Nation report. His guests will be Jacalyn Guy, Deputy Director of the SMC’s Evidence and Analysis team and Michael Pandazis, SMC’s Head of Evidence.
In the session, we will outline the report’s findings. They provide a comprehensive analysis of social mobility in the UK, and highlights some key trends at a local level. We will also share improvements that we have made to the SMC’s online Data Explorer Tool, including how you can use it to gain insights into where social mobility prospects are currently the highest or lowest in the UK. There will be an opportunity to ask the panel questions relating to the report.
